Wine

 Grape Wine

It is  Christmas 🎄🎅. The whole place is filled with red and green colors . Each house is decorated with beautiful lights . Snowman, snowflakes, Santa is everywhere 🎅.  You all must be wrapping up the Christmas preparations. The kitchen must be smelling fruit cakes 🍰🍪 and cookies. I am here with yet another Christmas recipe … yup!! You guessed it right. It is wine 🍷…. Actually I started preparing this a year ago and was waiting for this time of the year to post it 😉. It is an easy recipe with minimum ingredients 👍. I have used grapes 🍇, sugar, yeast and water. After juicing the grapes, you mix everything and keep covered in a dark place for at least 3 weeks. Delicious wine 🍷 is ready 😀.  Okay then let’s get started….

Total Time: 30min + 3 weeks

 Ingredients

Grapes: 3 cups

Sugar: 3 cup

Water: 4 (boiled and cooled)

Yeast: 4 tsp (200 ml lukewarm water to proof)

Method

1.   Clean the grapes well under running water after removing stem and stalk.

2.   Sterilize the bottle well. Steam sterilization will be better you can to it by showing the bottle in steam.

3.   Proof the yeast by mixing the yeast and mentioned water.

4.    Take the sterilized jar put the grapes in it and mash with clean, dry wooden  ladle.

5.   Now add sugar and proofed yeast  and water .

6.   Do not fill more than two third of bottle size.

7.   Cover the bottle with a cloth preferably cotton.

8.   Leave it in a dark undisturbed place for at least 3 weeks.

9.   Sometimes you might need few more weeks to get clear wine and for frothing to stop.

10. Without shaking the sediments strain and use.

11.When it is done it should taste sweet and have the smell of grapes. If it is sour and smells vinegar it is better to discard

Notes

1.   I have used red seedless grapes and hence the color is light if you want deep red color then use black grapes.

2.   Clean grapes should be used. I wiped each grape with a paper towel to take away the extra moisture. All jars, ladles used should be clean and dry.

3.   Even a little moisture and dirt can ruin the whole thing.

4.   Take care not to overfill the bottle. It will bubble a bit while fermenting so use big jar or else use two clean jars. I used two jars.

5.   You can caramelize sugar and add too. If so caramelize half of the sugar and add when it is lukewarm.
