Chilli Chicken Gravy

Yes it is a non vegetarian dish this time…. An easy chili chicken recipe..Chili chicken is a popular Indo –Chinese dish. It is severed along with fried rice across the globe. Usually it is severed in the dry form as an appetizer. Here I have added some gravy to the dish. Chili chicken usually calls for frying the marinated chicken by adding color.Being a bit health conscious didn’t go for frying and coloring J J…. Instead the marinated chicken is cooked with the added sauces making it very juicy and tender. You don’t add any Maida as we are not frying it.   As you take a bite you get a combination of added sauces which will have the flavours of a hot and sweet mixture. Will soon update the dry fried version. . Ok then let’s get started.

Preparation time: 35 -40 mins

Cooking time: 40 mins

Serves: 7-8

INGREDIENTS

Boneless chicken: 700 gms

For Marination

Ginger: 1 big piece

Garlic: 8-10 pods

Green chilies: 3-4

Vinegar: 1 tsp

 Pepper powder: 1tsp

Salt: as needed

For Gravy

Onion sliced: 1 (big)

Bell pepper/capsicum chopped : 1 (½   + ½)

Vegetable oil: 2 tbsp

Tomato sauce: 3 tbsp

Chili sauce: 2 tbsp

Soy sauce: 2tbsp

Corn flour: 2 tbsp mixed with ½ cup of water

Water: as needed

Salt: as needed

METHOD

1.Clean cubed chicken with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside.

     2. Crush ginger, garlic and green chilies to a coarse paste. You can add vinegar while crushing.Transfer it to a bowl. Add vinegar (if you didn’t add while crushing), pepper powder, salt and mix well..

3.  Marinate the chicken pieces with the paste. Cover and keep it aside for 30 mins.

4.Heat oil in a pan when it is hot enough, throw in the sliced onions sauté it well followed by half of the chopped bell peppers .

5. When it is well sautéed add tomato, chilly and soy sauces.  Mix it till well combined.

6. Add half a cup of water followed by marinated chicken, cook the chicken in medium flame till its cooked.

 7.   Once the chicken is juicy and tender (cooked) add corn flour mixture.

8.  Once the gravy has thickened up add other half of the bell peppers, cook for 2-3 mins.

9.     Mix well and transfer it to a serving bowl.

10. Serve this  as a side dish for fried rice, roti or naan.

NOTES:

     1.  If you want you can add fried chicken or cooked chicken. if so  fry or pressure cook (2 whistles)  it    after 30 mins of marination .

     2.  Vegetable oil or olive oil is preferred over coconut oil.

           3.   If you want you can skip adding bell peppers in halves and add the whole chopped ones while sautéing itself. Just to have that crunchy texture I added the half later
.
4.You can increase or decrease the quantity of chilies and sauces according to your spice level.

5.Take care while adding corn flour if the gravy is thick enough you can skip adding that.

6. If you are adding food color add it while marinating.
